450 MAIN EVENT RESULTS // 2023 ANAHEIM 2 SUPERCROSS (UPDATED) (2024)

The 2023 Anaheim 2 Supercross has been an exciting one. It’s the first Triple Crown of the 2023 Monster Energy Supercross season and it comes at a perfect time, because we have the same two riders finish first and second in the 450SX Main Events so far this season. Eli Tomac has been unstoppable after two races and Cooper Webb has been consistent with two second place finishes. The Triple Crown format subtracts the Heat races from the schedule and implements LCQ races just after timed qualifying, before the lights turn on for the night show. Then, when the official racing gets started, the 450SX class will have three 12-minutes plus 1-lap Main Events and the riders with the best overall score after three races will win the night.

450 OVERALLRESULTS

Chase Sexton wins the overall at Anaheim 2.

The third 450 Main Event was pure chaos again, just like the 250 class, only with less crashing. Eli Tomac was coming on strong, trying to pass Cooper Webb and he jumped and landed on tough blocks, going down hard. In the end, everyone battled hard but it was Chase Sexton who grabbed the win.

Sitting two positions behind Chase in the third Main, Jason would have had nearly identical scores with the leader.

What made Anaheim 2 interesting for a Triple Crown was the lack of consistency out of the top riders. The positions varied drastically with more consitent scores starting around the 10th position. Ken would go 2-3-4 for a third overall while Cooper Webb would go 7-4-2 for fourth overall.

Chase Sexton would win the last Main of the night, claiming overall Triple Crown victory.

Cooper Webb and Jason Anderson would both get an excellent start but would eventually be passed by Chase for the lead.

And the most shocking event of the night would entail a massive crash from the previous SX champion, Eli Tomac. Eli doesn’t crash let alone crash BIG.

Even with his levers pointing towards the ground, Eli made his way all the way back up to 13th place. Seriously impressive.

Jason Anderson wins 450 Main 2.

The second 450SX Main started off with a bang. Jason Anderson grabbed the start with Ken Roczen second. Webb, Sexton and Tomac were further back and Sexton tucked the front end and crashed after the finish, knocking him back even further. Aaron Plessinger passed Roczen for second, but Ken got him right back and Plessinger crashed in a corner the next lap. Tomac caught up to the back of Roczen with 5-minutes to go to battle for second.

Ken Roczen was putting on an impressive feat but Tomac made quick work after catching him in the whoops.

With just under two-minutes to go, Eli Tomac got along side of Roczen in the whoops, but Roczen didn’t budge. They were side by side for two straightaways, Tomac passed him and rolled the triple, but Ken squared up the corner, doubled it and got back around Eli. He stayed in front of him for another lap before sliding the rear end out and going off the track, forfeiting the position. Next Cooper Webb set his eyes on Ken for third.

With the points accumulated for the two races, Tomac and Roczen are tied with 5-points and Jason Anderson and Chase Sexton are tied with 6-points going into the final race.

Pretty cool to see so many battles happening at the front of the 450 class.

450 MAIN EVENT 1 RESULTS

Chase Sexton wins 450SX Main 1.

Chase Sexton grabbed the holeshot with Ken Roczen second and Adam Cianciarulo in third. Cooper Webb was buried in the pack while Eli Tomac was fifth after the second lap. Justin Barcia was in sixth, but he went down all by himself in a berm, Cooper Webb and Jason Anderson just missed his bike. Then, Barcia got up next to Dean Wilson and then, mid-air while jumping over the starting line, they drifted into each other and hit, thankfully neither rider crashed. Adam Cianciarulo held strong in third, behind Sexton and Roczen until Eli Tomac passed him in the whoops. He was fourth until both Ferrandis and Webb passed him with just over 2-minutes to go.

It was only a matter of time till Jason was knocking on Cooper’s back door.

On the last lap, Cooper Webb was making a charge on Dylan Ferrandis, but Anderson was coming on strong to the back wheel of Webb. Through the whoops on the last lap, Anderson had the momentum and inside line, Cooper Webb tried to close the door but Jason came in and knocked him over to snag fifth place in the first Main.

450 LCQ RESULTS

Freddie Noren comes from behind to finish second, pressuring Kevin Moranz for the lead at the end.

Colt Nichols was 6th at Anaheim 1 and 12th at San Diego.
