We're rolling in to #DOTBlitzWeek with delicious lunch from Panda Express!We don't know what they put in that addicting #OrangeChicken, but we do know a lot about this yearly event and are prepared to help our customers navigate the roads ahead.A few things to know and talk to your transportation partners about:When:Tuesday, May 14th through Thursday, May 16thWhere:Highways in the United States, Canada & MexicoWhat:DOT Week is the largest enforcement program in the world on commercial motor vehicles.In fact, since its implementation in 1988, nearly 2 million inspections have occurred. Anestimated 15 trucks are inspected every minute during the 72-hour blitzin May!!For 72 hours, motor vehicle inspectors and highway patrol officers conduct inspections on commercial motor vehicles at weigh stations, inspection stations, and temporary inspection checkpoints. Throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to ensure the safety of truck drivers and pedestrians on our roads. What to Expect in 2024:1. Capacity will probably be tighter.Most carriers will operate as usual, but some drivers will opt to park and take a little time off. 2. Routing guide compliance may deteriorate.As drivers call off, the chances increase that a carrier will give back a load. Local and regional hauls will probably be less affected, while lanes around 500-600 miles will be at higher risk. 3. The spot market may be more expensive.With carrier supply likely to decrease and demand to remain constant,spot ratesmay inflate. 4. Drivers may be late.There is a good chance a driver hauling your freight will be pulled over. A majority of the inspections entail a rigorous 37-point look over. If you think taking your shoes off at airport security takes a while… trucks are really big, and take a whole lot longer! 5. Not confined to a specific region.International Roadcheck is a continent-wide event, affecting carriers and shippers everywhere. 6.
